Pune, January 14, 2026: Under a lake-cleaning अभियान (drive), the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) will soon undertake desilting and cleaning works at Katraj LakeJambhulwadi Lake, and Pashan Lake. The initiative will be carried out through the PMC’s Drainage Department, with technical support from the State government’s Water Resources Mechanical Department.

As part of the cleaning operation, a large quantity of silt and soil will be excavated from these lakes. The PMC has appealed to citizens across Pune city and district, especially farmers, to make use of this silt and soil, as it is highly beneficial for agricultural and other purposes.

The excavated silt and soil will be made available free of cost by the Pune Municipal Corporation at the respective sites.

According to officials, the desilting work will commence after January 19, 2026. However, the responsibility of transportation will rest with the interested citizens or farmers. Those availing the silt will have to bear the transportation and labour costs themselves.

The silt and soil removed from the lakes will be made available on-site and will be distributed on a “first come, first served” basis.
