Pune: PMRDA Speeds Up Double-Decker Bridge And Maan–Hinjewadi Metro Projects To Ease Traffic Woes
Pune, January 23, 2026: In a major push to reduce traffic congestion in the city, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has accelerated work on the under-construction double-decker bridge at Savitribai Phule Pune University Chowk and the Maan–Hinjewadi Metro Line 3 project.
Metropolitan Commissioner Dr Yogesh Mhase and Additional Metropolitan Commissioner Deepak Singla conducted an on-site inspection of both projects on Thursday. Senior officials including PMRDA Chief Engineer Rinaz Pathan, Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited (PITCMRL) CEO Anil Saini, officials from the Pune Municipal Corporation, representatives of contractor companies, and other senior PMRDA officers were present during the inspection.

Considering Pune’s growing traffic congestion, the Metropolitan Commissioner stated that efforts are being made to open the University Chowk double-decker bridge for public use at the earliest.
Officials and engineers from Tata Projects Limited were instructed to expedite the work on the Baner-side ramp by deploying additional manpower and resources. The Pune Municipal Corporation was also directed to urgently resolve the water leakage issue that has been hindering construction of the Pashan-side ramp.
The inspection also included a detailed review of the Maan–Hinjewadi Metro Line 3 project. Technical challenges related to metro stations were discussed, and immediate solutions were suggested. Special attention was given to the status of foot overbridge works at Shivajinagar Station, Modibaug, and University Chowk. The administration emphasized maintaining construction quality while ensuring timely completion of the metro corridor.
Officials expressed confidence that once these infrastructure projects are completed, traffic movement in Pune will become significantly smoother and more efficient, providing much-needed relief to daily commuters.
