Baramati | Pune: CCTV footage from near the crash site has surfaced, capturing the final moments of the aircraft carrying Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and NCP leader Ajit Pawar before it went down near Baramati on Wednesday morning.

The video, recorded by a roadside surveillance camera, shows the aircraft descending at a steep angle during its landing approach. Seconds later, a bright flash is visible as the plane strikes the ground, followed by a massive fireball and thick black smoke rising into the air.

According to officials, the crash claimed the lives of Ajit Pawar, aged 66, and four others on board. The incident occurred at around 9 am, nearly an hour after the aircraft had departed from Mumbai en route to Baramati.

Visuals from the crash site showed intense flames, debris scattered across the area, and emergency vehicles rushing in as local residents attempted to assist rescue efforts. Fire and rescue teams, along with senior police and security officials, were deployed immediately after reports indicated that the aircraft lost control during the landing phase.

Rescue teams reached the site swiftly, and several bodies were shifted to Baramati Medical College for further procedures. The Superintendent of Police, Pune Rural, confirmed that the identification process was underway.

Officials from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) also arrived at the location to examine the wreckage and assess possible technical or operational causes. Authorities said further details would be shared after preliminary findings.

Ajit Pawar was travelling to Baramati to attend a public programme linked to the ongoing Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections. Following confirmation of the tragedy, members of the Pawar family left for Baramati. His wife and MP Sunetra Pawar, son Parth Pawar, and NCP-SP working president Supriya Sule were preparing to travel to the crash site from Delhi.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
