Pune | Balewadi, January 28, 2026: Golden Trellis Co-Operative Housing Society in Balewadi has taken a significant step towards sustainable living by commissioning a 150 kVA rooftop solar power project, resulting in annual electricity savings of nearly ₹40 lakh. The initiative places the society among the larger residential complexes in the area to adopt solar energy on such a scale.

According to Aadesh Mistry, Secretary, Golden Trellis Co-Operative Housing Society, the solar project was planned and executed through a collective effort of residents and the managing committee, with a long-term vision of reducing energy costs and promoting environmental responsibility. Since becoming operational, the system has substantially lowered dependence on conventional grid power while ensuring a reliable and consistent electricity supply for common amenities.

Residents said the decision to invest in solar energy was driven by rising electricity tariffs and growing awareness about sustainable practices. “The focus was not only on financial savings, but also on creating energy resilience and contributing positively to the environment,” said society secretary Aadesh Mistry. He added that the project has helped reduce the society’s overall carbon footprint while offering predictable energy costs for years to come.

The solar installation caters primarily to common area requirements, including lifts, water pumps, lighting, and other shared facilities. Officials noted that the reduction in electricity expenditure has eased the financial burden on residents and strengthened the society’s maintenance fund.

With Pune witnessing a steady rise in large residential developments, Golden Trellis’ experience highlights the economic and environmental benefits of adopting renewable energy solutions at the community level. Society representatives believe their model can serve as a practical reference for other housing societies considering similar investments.

The managing committee has expressed readiness to share insights on project execution, challenges faced, and the expected payback period to encourage wider adoption of solar power across Pune’s residential sector. As cities increasingly look toward citizen-led sustainability initiatives, Golden Trellis’ solar project stands out as a successful example of community-driven clean energy transition.
