Mumbai’s Own Pink Bloom Season Feels Straight Out of Japan — Here’s Where to Find It, How to Get There, and Whether You Need Tickets
Mumbai may be known for its rush, noise, and concrete skyline, but for a brief time every year, a stretch of the city softens into shades of pink. While Japan draws global crowds for its iconic cherry blossom season, Mumbaikars are discovering that they don’t need to book an international flight to witness a similar spectacle. Right here in the city, nature puts on a stunning floral show that feels nothing short of magical.
Despite Mumbai’s tropical weather—which isn’t naturally suited for cherry blossom trees—certain flowering species have adapted beautifully to the urban environment. One of the most eye-catching examples can be seen along the Eastern Express Highway, especially in the Vikhroli–Ghatkopar belt.
The Pink Trumpet Trees of Vikhroli
The trees responsible for this seasonal transformation are Tabebuia Heterophylla, commonly known as Pink Trumpet Trees. Though they are often compared to cherry blossoms because of their pastel pink flowers, they are a different species altogether. These trees thrive with minimal water, require low maintenance, and are well-suited to city conditions—making them a perfect match for Mumbai’s landscape.
When they bloom, the branches fill with soft pink flowers, many of which carpet the ground below. The result is a dreamy, almost surreal scene that momentarily slows down the pace of daily life on one of the city’s busiest highways.
Where Exactly Is This Pink Stretch?
Every year, the section of the Eastern Express Highway between Ghatkopar and Vikhroli, close to the Godrej area, turns into a floral corridor. The sight has gained widespread attention recently after a video shared on Instagram went viral. The caption read:
“Location – Vikhroli Ghatkopar Eastern Express Highway. PS – These flowers are called Pink Tabebuia.”
Since then, countless visitors have been stopping by to admire—and photograph—the blooming trees.
How to Reach and Entry Details

Social Media Buzz and Mixed Reactions
The pink bloom has sparked a wave of reactions online. Many users expressed admiration for the view, with comments praising the charm and beauty of Vikhroli during this season. Some mentioned that they’ve visited the area multiple times just to soak in the atmosphere, while others felt proud that drone shots are finally capturing what locals have enjoyed for years.
One user poetically noted that while Mumbai never truly pauses, these pink weeks give the city a rare moment to breathe.
At the same time, not all reactions were positive. A few voices raised concerns about the growing crowds and lack of civic responsibility. People complained about branches being pulled down, flowers being plucked, footpaths getting blocked for photos and reels, and joggers—especially on Sundays—finding it hard to use the space as intended.
