Fruits are usually sprinkled with water to keep them looking fresh, but a viral video from Virar West near Mumbai has left viewers disturbed after revealing what kind of water was actually being used. The clip, which has been widely shared on social media, shows a roadside fruit seller allegedly sprinkling gutter water on fruits meant for sale, triggering anger and concern among local residents.

According to the video, a group of locals confronted the fruit vendor after noticing that the water he was using appeared dirty and unhygienic. They questioned him about the source of the water, warning him that it looked like gutter water. The vendor, however, repeatedly denied the allegation and claimed that the water was supplied by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

When asked to identify himself, the man introduced himself as Sajjan. Despite repeated explanations from the locals, he continued to insist that the water was clean and fit for use. To counter his claim, the camera was turned toward a nearby puddle filled with visibly dirty water, which the locals said was the same water being sprinkled on the fruits.

In a shocking attempt to justify his actions, the fruit seller collected the same water in a metal utensil normally used for weighing fruits and drank it in front of everyone. He admitted on camera that he had been using that water on the fruits and argued that if he could drink it himself, there was nothing wrong with sprinkling it on produce meant for customers. He also claimed that several people had earlier told him the water was BMC water, which is why he believed it was safe.

The confrontation grew more intense as the locals firmly stated that the water was clearly gutter water and posed a serious health risk. Eventually, the fruit vendor was handed over to the police for further action. One of the locals later shared that the man broke down, crying and pleading for forgiveness, requesting that no strict action be taken against him. However, the resident added that the seriousness of the issue meant the vendor could not be let off easily.

The incident has sparked outrage online, with many questioning food safety practices at roadside stalls and calling for stricter monitoring.
