Pune, February 4, 2026:

Additional Pune Municipal Commissioner Omprakash Divte chaired a review meeting with officials from the Road Department on Wednesday to assess the progress of the city’s ongoing pothole-free drive, chamber leveling, and footpath maintenance and repair works.

During the meeting, officials were instructed to strictly follow newly prepared Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure the development of well-equipped roads and properly designed footpaths for citizens.

Priority has been given to providing and repairing footpaths near educational institutions, hospitals, railway stations, metro stations, and other high-footfall public places. The administration also directed that a maximum number of road chambers be brought to road level within the next three months by deploying additional teams and maintaining quality standards, with a target of completing at least 50 chambers per day.

It was further directed that future road construction should match the quality standards of roads developed for international cycling competitions. For this purpose, existing specifications, terms, and conditions will be revised.

To enhance technical expertise, the Road Department engineers will undergo training every three months by road construction experts and reputed institutions such as IITs, focusing on new concepts and advanced technical skills in road development.

Addressing the issue of frequent road damage due to repeated excavation by utility service providers, officials decided that restoration of such excavations will be carried out by the main Road Department as per SOP guidelines. Proposals for necessary budgetary provisions will be submitted accordingly.

The civic administration also plans to establish a ‘City Transformation Committee’ to fast-track project implementation through coordinated inter-departmental meetings, ensuring smoother execution and faster completion of works. Departments were instructed to present detailed information on pending civic issues during these meetings.

At the conclusion of the meeting, officials congratulated Rajesh Bankar on assuming charge as Chief Engineer (Roads), expressing confidence that his experience would contribute to quality-driven teamwork.

The meeting was attended by Additional Municipal Commissioner (Works) Omprakash Divte, Chief Engineer (Roads) Rajesh Bankar, Superintending Engineer (Roads) Ashit Jadhav, Ajit Bambale, Abhijeet Ambekar, along with executive engineers, deputy engineers, and junior engineers from the Road Department.
