PCMC Mayor Ravi Landge Reviews Nigdi And Chikhali Water Plants, Stresses Clean Water For All
Pimpri, February 7, 2026: In view of the rapidly growing population of Pimpri-Chinchwad, Mayor Ravi Landge conducted an on-site inspection of the Nigdi and Chikhali water purification centres on Friday to review and strengthen the city’s water supply system.
During the visit, the Mayor assessed the city’s total water requirements, the current water supply managed by the municipal corporation, and the measures being implemented and proposed to meet future demand. He emphasised that clean and regular water supply is a fundamental right of citizens and assured that ensuring this service remains his personal responsibility.
Senior officials including Additional Commissioner Vikrant Bagade, Chief Engineer Pramod Ombhase, Assistant City Engineer Ajay Suryavanshi, Chief Chemist Dr. Prashant Jagtap, Executive Engineers Vijaysingh Bhosale and Mahesh Baride, Public Relations Officer Praful Puranik, along with other officials and staff of the Water Supply Department, were present during the inspection.
For the Chikhali area, around 90 MLD (million litres per day) of water is currently drawn daily from the Nigoje barrage on the Indrayani River. This water is treated at the Chikhali water purification plant and supplied to residents. To meet future requirements, construction of a separate 200 MLD capacity water purification project using water from the Bhama Askhed Dam is currently underway. Mayor Landge reviewed the progress of this project and took detailed updates. He was also briefed on the temporary pumping system at Nigoje, which is being used until the direct pipeline from the Andra Dam becomes operational.
The Mayor also inspected the water purification centre at Sector 23, Nigdi, where he received a detailed presentation on the facility. Initially commissioned with a capacity of 114 MLD, the plant has been expanded in phases due to city expansion, growth of residential and industrial zones, and a sharp rise in water demand. It is now operational at a capacity of 550 MLD and processes water from the Pavana River, supplying nearly 75 per cent of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation area through an integrated pumping and distribution system. Information on purification processes, quality testing standards, and distribution mechanisms was also shared.
Officials further briefed the Mayor on major projects including the Bhama Askhed pipeline project, the Pavana closed pipeline project, the entire chain of water lifting, purification and distribution, regular water quality testing procedures, and the capacity and condition of water storage tanks across different parts of the city.
Concluding the inspection, Mayor Ravi Landge stressed the need to further strengthen water infrastructure to ensure that citizens continue to receive regular, adequate-pressure, and high-quality water supply in the future. He directed officials to focus on implementing sustainable and high-standard measures to secure the city’s long-term water security.
