Goa Police Warn Of Instant Detention For Tourists Forcing Selfies With Foreign Women
Statewide crackdown launched after repeated complaints of harassment and consent violations on popular beaches
Goa Police have issued a strong warning to domestic tourists, stating that anyone found forcing selfies or clicking photographs of foreign women without consent will be detained immediately.
The announcement comes amid growing concerns over harassment and inappropriate behaviour reported at some of Goa’s busiest beaches, particularly involving foreign nationals being pressured into posing for photographs.
A senior police official said the state has stepped up enforcement and beach patrolling, making it clear that consent violations will not be treated lightly.
“Any domestic tourist found clicking photographs of foreign women without their consent or forcibly taking selfies will be detained on the spot,” the official said, adding that police teams have been instructed to intervene immediately rather than issuing only verbal warnings.
The crackdown follows a recent incident on Calangute beach in North Goa, where police registered a case against two tourists from Odisha for allegedly harassing a Russian woman.
According to officials, the accused — Akash Minaz (19) and Dhayan Tappo (34) — reportedly forced photographs with the tourist and also touched her inappropriately, prompting swift police action.
Authorities said the move is aimed at sending a clear message that harassment, intrusive photography, and any behaviour violating personal boundaries will not be tolerated.
Goa remains one of India’s most popular international tourist destinations, drawing large numbers of foreign visitors every year. Officials have stressed that maintaining a safe and respectful environment is critical, especially during peak tourist season when beaches see heavy crowds.
The police have urged tourists to respect privacy and understand that taking photographs without permission can amount to harassment and legal offence.
