Pune: Late-Night Ruckus Near Bizzbay Mall On NIBM–Undri Road Triggers Crackdown On Liquor Outlet Operations
Pune | February 12, 2026: A late-night disturbance near Bizzbay Mall on NIBM–Undri Road has once again highlighted growing concerns over public safety and nuisance linked to liquor outlets operating close to residential areas. According to residents, a group of intoxicated individuals created a major disruption around 12:45 am, shouting, using abusive language, and blocking the road for nearly half an hour, causing fear and inconvenience to local citizens.
Residents said such incidents have become frequent in the area, particularly because the liquor outlet reportedly remains open until 1:30 am, leading to regular late-night disturbances, drunken brawls, and traffic obstruction. Locals have long complained that the situation poses a serious risk to women, senior citizens, and late-night commuters, besides affecting the overall safety and peace of the neighbourhood.
Following the incident, residents approached the Superintendent of the Excise Department, Atul Kanade, and received assurances of prompt action. Residents confirmed that a meeting held on Wednesday resulted in a positive response, with authorities promising swift resolution of the issue.
Atul Kanade, Superintendent, State Excise Office, Pune spoke to Pune Pulse and said that prompt action would be taken in coordination with the local police authorities.
The matter had earlier been raised during Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar’s “Jan Sanwad” programme, where an amendment was passed making it mandatory for wine shops in commercial complexes within residential societies to obtain No Objection Certificates (NOCs). However, residents allege that shops already functioning near housing areas continued to operate without adequate regulation, leading to recurring problems.
In December, local representatives once again met DCM Ajit Pawar, along with MLA Chetan Tupe and Nanda Tai Lonkar, to press for action. However, follow-up was delayed due to the Pune Municipal Corporation elections.
According to residents, Superintendent Atul Kanade informed them that the Deputy Chief Minister had personally contacted him regarding the complaint, directing immediate attention to the issue despite his busy election schedule. Citizens have appreciated the response and administrative support, stating that consistent intervention is crucial to restoring public order in residential zones.
Members of the NIBM–Undri Road Resident Forum, including Parveen Tambe, Manasi Damley, and Sukhbir Singh Sangra, said the community will continue to pursue the matter until permanent regulatory measures are implemented. They have demanded strict enforcement of liquor shop timings, mandatory NOCs, regular inspections, and police patrolling to prevent such incidents in the future.
Residents stressed that ensuring peaceful nights and public safety in residential areas must remain a top priority for civic and excise authorities.
