Pimpri, February 12, 2026: In a move aimed at addressing frequent power disruptions in the Old Sangvi area of the Chinchwad constituency, MLA Shankar Jagtap has demanded funding for a new high-capacity electricity line between the NCL Pashan substation and MSEDCL’s Aundh staff quarters.

Raising the issue at the Pune District Planning and Development Committee (DPDC) meeting held on Thursday, Jagtap urged authorities to allocate funds for laying a 2.5-kilometre-long, 22 kV, 300 sq mm high-capacity underground power cable. The proposal received a positive response during the meeting.

Speaking at the meeting, Jagtap highlighted that residents of Old Sangvi have been facing recurring power outages, voltage fluctuations and cable faults, causing significant inconvenience. He noted that the existing main cable has become old and technically weak, with multiple joints leading to frequent breakdowns.

He also referred to an incident on July 27, 2025, in the Pawar Nagar area, where a sudden voltage surge damaged televisions, refrigerators and other electronic appliances in several homes, resulting in financial losses for residents.

Jagtap stated that installing a new, high-quality and secure power line would ensure uninterrupted electricity supply with stable voltage. He added that the project would reduce the risk of sparking, fire hazards and potential loss of life, thereby improving overall safety for citizens.

In a statement issued after the meeting, Jagtap said the administration has shown a supportive stance toward providing funds for the project. He expressed confidence that the work would commence soon, bringing much-needed relief to residents through reliable and safe power supply.
