Pune, February 12, 2026: Nearly a month after the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) elections concluded with the election of 165 corporators, residents of Wanowrie, Salunke Vihar road, Kondhwa, Undri and Mohamadwadi are calling for a clear and focused development roadmap for the wards. While the past few weeks have seen multiple felicitation programmes and celebratory events for newly elected representatives, citizens say the real work of governance and civic improvement must now begin without delay. The citizens also feel that all four corporators should work in unison keeping the development of the ward.

For years, residents in the ward have been grappling with a range of unresolved civic issues that continue to affect daily life. Persistent encroachments on footpaths and public spaces have reduced walkability and access for pedestrians, while health and sanitation concerns remain a major challenge in several pockets. Traffic congestion, particularly during peak hours, has worsened due to poor traffic management and unregulated roadside activities. Irregular water supply and inconsistent pressure in residential areas have further added to the frustrations of citizens, who say these problems have existed for far too long without sustainable solutions.

Residents point out that in the past, the PMC often cited limitations in fund allocation and administrative constraints as reasons for delayed or stalled development works. On the other hand, newly elected corporators have maintained that the absence of elected representatives in the PMC for a prolonged period had resulted in a vacuum in decision-making, leading to a lack of coordinated planning and execution of development projects in the ward. This mutual attribution of responsibility, citizens feel, has only prolonged inaction and allowed problems to accumulate.

Many residents believe this situation is not unique to just one ward and that similar challenges are visible across several other wards in Pune. However, they stress that this should not become an excuse for continued neglect. Citizens are now demanding a time-bound development agenda with clearly defined priorities, transparency in fund utilisation, and regular communication between corporators, municipal officials, and residents.

Local citizen groups and housing societies have urged corporators to move beyond symbolic gestures and focus on actionable governance. They are seeking structured ward-level planning, issue-wise committees, and periodic public review meetings to track progress. According to residents, only a proactive, accountable, and collaborative approach can ensure that Wanowrie and Salunke Vihar see meaningful improvement in infrastructure, services, and overall quality of life.

As expectations rise, citizens of the area hope that the newly elected leadership will shift from celebrations to concrete action and deliver visible, on-ground development that reflects the trust placed in them by the voters.
