Senior citizen caught in Sangvi trap operation; drugs worth Rs 2.6 lakh seized.
Pune Police have arrested a 64-year-old Mumbai-based woman after she was allegedly caught delivering synthetic drugs and cocaine in the Pimple Gurav area.
Acting on a tip-off, the Sangvi police team laid a trap late Monday night and detained the woman while she was waiting to hand over the contraband to a buyer. Officials said drugs collectively worth around Rs 2.6 lakh were recovered from her possession.
The seized substances included 11.5 grams of mephedrone, a synthetic stimulant, and 9.7 grams of cocaine.
Police identified the woman as a resident of Juhu Tara Road in Mumbai. During questioning, she reportedly told investigators that a person from Malad had sent her to Pune to deliver the drugs.
According to police, the woman admitted she agreed to act as a courier in exchange for obtaining drugs for her own consumption, as she is allegedly addicted.
A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Police officials said efforts are now underway to trace and arrest the main supplier involved in the racket.
The arrest highlights growing concerns over drug networks using couriers from unexpected backgrounds, including senior citizens, to evade suspicion.
