India opener says “Sport doesn’t care about your feelings” after steering team to T20I series win

India’s star opener Smriti Mandhana has once again grabbed attention, this time not just for her performance on the field but for a heartfelt Instagram post that has gone viral among fans.

A day after smashing a match-winning 82 off 55 balls in the third and final T20I against Australia at the Adelaide Oval, Mandhana shared a powerful message on her Instagram story. Her knock helped India post 176 in the decider and seal a 17-run victory, clinching the T20I series 2-1.

In her post, Mandhana wrote, “Sport doesn’t care about your feelings. It’s a harsh truth. But it doesn’t. It doesn’t care if you’re tired. If you’ve just won. If you’re the best player. If you’re the newest player. If you’re the most confident, most nervous, the hardest working. None of it.”

She added, “It only cares about one thing. How you play the game. How you show up. The intentions you have to be the best you can be on that day. And if, and only if, you give it your all, you give it your full attention and respect, you might be able to come away with a chance of success. And then you get a chance to do it all again.”

The post struck a chord with fans, especially given the ups and downs Mandhana has faced in recent months, both professionally and personally.

After playing a key role in India’s Women’s World Cup triumph in 2025, Mandhana reportedly went through a difficult personal phase when her wedding, scheduled for November 23, 2025, was called off. Though she has not spoken publicly about it, her focus has remained firmly on cricket.

Her 2025 season was remarkable. Mandhana scored 1,703 international runs in a single calendar year, crossed the 10,000-run mark in international cricket and was named the BBC Indian Sportswoman of the Year for her consistency.

With the ODI series against Australia set to begin on February 24, Mandhana appears not just in form but mentally strong. Her message underlined a simple but powerful belief — in sport, effort and intent matter more than emotions.
