The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) Water Supply Department carried out a major enforcement drive in D Ward, seizing 12 unauthorised electric water pumps that were illegally connected directly to municipal pipelines.

The action was initiated in the Pimple Nilakh area, where several housing societies were found using high-capacity pumps to draw excessive water directly from tap connections. Officials said these illegal connections were disrupting equitable water distribution in the locality.

Illegal Pumping Causing Low Pressure and Contamination Risks

During a surprise inspection, the Water Supply Department обнаруж (found) that in multiple locations, 2 HP capacity pumps had been illegally installed on municipal water lines. This practice had led to:

  • Low water pressure complaints in surrounding areas
  • Unequal water distribution among residents
  • Risk of contaminated water entering pipelines due to suction pressure

Several residents had earlier reported problems of muddy and polluted water entering domestic taps because of these pumps.

Officials Involved in the Operation

The operation was carried out by Junior Engineer Priyanka Shinde along with municipal staff, under the guidance of Executive Engineer Mahesh Baride and Deputy Engineer Pravin Dhumal.

More Actions Planned Across Wards

PCMC officials stated that similar drives will be conducted in other wards in the coming days to ensure equal and adequate water supply to all citizens.

The civic body has also issued a strict warning, urging residents and housing societies not to use unauthorised water pumps.
Authorities said that strict action will be taken against violators under municipal rules if illegal pumping is found in future inspections.

Officials expressed confidence that the removal of illegal pumps will help restore normal water pressure and smoother water distribution in the Pimple Nilakh area.
