A shocking CCTV video from a residential building in Valsad shows the elevator suddenly moving while a passenger was stepping out

A frightening elevator accident captured on CCTV in Gujarat’s Valsad has gone viral on social media after a man narrowly escaped a potentially fatal incident when a lift suddenly began moving while its door was still open.

According to reports, the incident occurred at the Sabarmati Building in Sardar Heights on Tithal Road in Valsad city. The building is located in a posh residential area and has a 14-floor structure equipped with a high-tech elevator.

What Happened Inside The Lift

CCTV footage from the building shows the man entering the elevator at around 7:22 am and pressing the button for his floor. He stands near the door waiting for it to open.

At about 7:23:24 am, the lift reaches the desired floor and the door opens. As the man begins stepping out of the elevator, the lift suddenly starts moving upward at high speed even though the door is still open.

Within less than a second, the unexpected movement causes the man to lose balance. As the lift shoots upward, his head strikes the upper portion of the floor opening, causing him to fall.

The shocking moment was captured clearly on CCTV cameras installed inside the lift.

Technical Fault Suspected

Officials said the accident occurred due to a suspected technical malfunction that caused the lift to move despite the door being open — a situation that should normally be prevented by built-in safety systems.

The building’s chairman told media that the elevator is maintained by a private company and technicians had visited the building just two days earlier to fix issues related to the lift’s lights and fans.

Man Survives The Incident

Despite the terrifying moment shown in the footage, the passenger reportedly survived the accident, though the incident has raised serious concerns about elevator safety and maintenance in residential buildings.

Authorities are now looking into the cause of the malfunction and whether there was any lapse in maintenance or safety protocols.
