A sudden and powerful explosion-like sound sent shockwaves through the Ranjangaon Ganpati area of Pune district on Monday afternoon, creating panic among residents and damaging several homes.
The incident occurred around 4:15 pm, when a deafening noise echoed across the locality. Witnesses said the impact was so intense that it resembled an earthquake, with tremors felt across the area for a brief period.
Several houses reportedly developed significant cracks in their walls, while in some homes, electrical switchboards were dislodged due to the vibrations. Fortunately, no injuries or casualties have been reported. However, hundreds of residents rushed out of their homes in fear following the sudden disturbance.
Earthquake or Sonic Boom? Investigation Underway
Authorities are yet to confirm the exact cause of the loud sound. Speculation ranges from a possible sonic boom to underground geological movement, but no official explanation has been issued so far.
Police Inspector Mahadev Waghmode from Ranjangaon MIDC Police Station stated that the local administration has informed district authorities about the incident. He urged citizens not to believe or spread rumours until an official report is released.

Locals whose homes sustained damage have demanded immediate assessment and compensation from the government. Officials are reportedly awaiting reports from geological and meteorological departments to determine the source of the mysterious sound.
