Buldhana, June 13, 2026: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) conducted a surprise inspection at the popular Shegaon Kachori Centre in Buldhana district as part of a statewide crackdown on food adulteration and hygiene violations ordered by FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe.
Led by Food Safety Inspector Gulabsing Vasave, the FDA team visited the establishment on June 11 and collected samples of raw materials used in the preparation of the widely consumed Shegaon kachoris. The samples have been sent for laboratory analysis to determine whether they meet food safety standards.
Shegaonās kachoris are a major attraction for lakhs of devotees and visitors who travel to the town each year. Authorities said the inspection was aimed at verifying the quality of ingredients used and ensuring that food sold to consumers is safe and free from adulteration.
FDA officials stated that strict action would be taken if the laboratory tests reveal any adulteration or violation of food safety norms.
The inspection is part of a broader state-wide campaign launched by the FDA to monitor food quality and curb the sale of adulterated or unsafe food products.
In a related action under the same enforcement drive, the FDA recently inspected a food establishment in Mulund, Mumbai, where officials found unhygienic conditions and several food items being sold without mandatory labeling. During the operation, authorities seized approximately 114.2 kg of food products valued at around ā¹8,290 and ordered the business to cease operations until compliance requirements are met.
The seized items included roasted gram, puffed rice, green peas suspected of containing artificial colouring, and various snack ingredients used in popular street foods.
Meanwhile, medical and pharmacy associations have urged the FDA to strictly enforce regulations requiring registered pharmacists to be present at medical stores for dispensing medicines. They have also called for action against the practice of renting out pharmacy licences and allowing unqualified individuals to distribute medicines, warning that such violations pose risks to public health.
The FDA has indicated that inspections and enforcement actions against food and pharmaceutical establishments will continue across Maharashtra in the coming weeks.
