Amid escalating regional tensions in parts of the Middle East, 111 citizens from Pune district who were stranded in Dubai have safely returned home, District Collector Jitendra Dudi confirmed on Tuesday.
A total of 184 residents from the district had been stuck in Dubai due to the prevailing situation. While 111 have now reached Pune safely, the flight schedule of 19 passengers has been rescheduled, and arrangements are underway to facilitate the return of the remaining 54 citizens.
The evacuation and coordination efforts are being carried out in accordance with directives issued by the Government of India and the Maharashtra government to ensure the safety of Indian nationals abroad.
Authorities have urged Indian citizens residing in sensitive regions — including Palestine (Ramallah), Qatar (Doha), Saudi Arabia (Riyadh), Israel (Tel Aviv), Iran (Tehran), Iraq (Baghdad), Kuwait, Bahrain, Muscat, Jordan and the United Arab Emirates (Abu Dhabi and Dubai) — to remain vigilant, avoid unnecessary travel and strictly follow advisories issued by local administrations and Indian embassies.
The state government has appealed to Maharashtrian residents abroad to remain calm, rely only on official information and immediately contact the respective Indian embassies in case of emergencies. Indian diplomatic missions in the affected countries are operating 24×7 helplines and are closely monitoring the situation.
For assistance, citizens may also contact the Pune District Disaster Management Control Room at 020-26123371 or 020-26133522.
District authorities have urged the public not to believe in rumours and assured that coordinated efforts between the central government, state government and Indian embassies are ongoing to safeguard all affected citizens.
