Pune: Bavdhan Residents To Protest Against RMC Plant Over Traffic Congestion And Pollution Concerns
Pune, March 8, 2026: Residents of Bavdhan have raised serious concerns over the operations of a Ready Mix Concrete (RMC) plant in the area, alleging that the facility is causing severe traffic congestion, safety risks, and environmental pollution in the largely residential locality.
The residents have organised a protest on March 8 at 10 am the Omkar Chowk in Bavdhan to raise their voice against the neglect shown by the authorities.
Local residents claim that the issue has persisted for several months despite repeated complaints and discussions with authorities and elected representatives. Several housing societies in the area have reportedly submitted grievances, highlighting the impact of the plant on the daily lives of people living nearby.
Citizen group Bavdhan Manch has also taken up the issue with the concerned authorities, but residents say no concrete action has been taken so far to address their concerns.
According to locals, the movement of hundreds of large concrete mixer trucks every day has led to severe traffic congestion in the area. Residents allege that the trucks operate without regulated timings, causing long traffic jams that affect school buses, office commuters and even emergency vehicles.
The situation is particularly worrying near the local bridge, where constant congestion has made the road unsafe. Residents say the road connecting the RMC plant to the bridge has become risky for pedestrians, especially children and senior citizens. Two-wheeler riders and cyclists are also reportedly vulnerable to accidents on this stretch.
Apart from traffic problems, residents have also raised environmental concerns. Locals claim that emissions of fine cement particles from the plant have worsened air quality in the area. Several residents have reported respiratory problems and breathing-related health issues, which they believe are linked to dust pollution.
With frustration growing among the community, residents have now planned a protest demanding immediate action from authorities, including the relocation or closure of the RMC plant operating in the residential zone.
Residents say the demonstration aims to draw attention to the problems faced by thousands of people living in the Bavdhan area and to urge authorities to intervene at the earliest.
