State Industries Minister Uday Samant shared the update on Friday, stating that the government has initiated the process to establish a large IT park in the region.

Aim to Reduce Pressure on Hinjewadi IT Hub

Currently, thousands of employees work in the IT hub at Hinjewadi IT Park. However, the area has long faced issues such as heavy traffic congestion and infrastructure challenges.

Due to these concerns, several companies have reportedly considered relocating their offices. Officials believe that developing a new IT hub within Pune district will provide companies with an alternative and help distribute the IT workforce more evenly.

Experts have also advised the government to ensure that infrastructure planning mistakes made during the development of Hinjewadi are not repeated in the new project.

Land Transfer Process Underway

The proposal for an IT park in Purandar has been under discussion for several years. The issue was recently raised in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly by MLA Vijay Shivtare, following which the government confirmed that the project is moving forward.

According to the minister, the land transfer process from the Revenue Department is currently underway. Once the transfer is completed, the land will be handed over to Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation for further development of the project.

The first meeting regarding the Purandar IT Park was held on July 24, 2024. Later, in a meeting on October 3, 2025, officials suggested developing the project on land owned by the Revenue Department. A formal request for land transfer was sent to the department on February 27 this year.

Location of the Proposed IT Park

The proposed IT park will be located about 3–4 kilometres from the upcoming international airport in Purandar. Around 572 hectares of land from the villages of Dive, Kodit and Chambli in Purandar taluka are currently under consideration for the project.

Once completed, the IT park is expected to benefit from strong connectivity due to its proximity to the airport and major road networks.

Employment and Regional Development

Officials believe the project will help reduce congestion in Hinjewadi, improve the distribution of IT infrastructure in Pune district, and generate significant employment opportunities for residents in the Purandar region.

The development is also expected to accelerate economic growth and urban infrastructure in surrounding areas.
