Pune, March 15, 2026: Residents in the Baner area have raised strong objections against a restaurant accused of allowing double parking on the footpath, causing inconvenience and safety risks for pedestrians. Citizens have also alleged that a resident who questioned the practice was threatened by members of the restaurant staff.

The issue was reported near Kapil Malhar on Baner Road in front of Gulmohar Restaurant, where vehicles were reportedly being parked in two rows on the footpath. Due to the obstruction, pedestrians were forced to walk on the road, increasing the risk of accidents.

According to residents, when a concerned citizen questioned the restaurant management about the illegal parking, instead of resolving the issue, some staff members allegedly behaved rudely and attempted to intimidate him.

Following the incident, members of local civic groups, including Baner Baner Pashan Residents Association (BBPRA) and Baner Balewadi Nagarik Manch (BBNM), along with several local residents, gathered in support of the complainant. A group of citizens visited the Baner Police Station and submitted a formal complaint demanding action against the restaurant management.

Police officials confirmed that a complaint had been registered and that an FIR has been filed in connection with the incident. The complaint highlights issues related to illegal double parking on the footpath as well as alleged misconduct with citizens.

Senior Police Inspector Chandrashekhar Sawant stated that the complaint has been taken on record and appropriate action will be taken against the staff involved. He assured residents that the police will cooperate fully in addressing civic grievances.

Authorities also urged citizens to report encroachments on footpaths in the Baner–Balewadi area to the municipal corporation and the police. Officials said action would also be taken against unauthorised bars and restaurants if violations are found, and encouraged residents to come forward and lodge complaints without hesitation.
