Mumbai, March 15, 2026: In a remarkable achievement for Indian Railways, Mohammed Shams Chand, a Travelling Ticketing Inspector (TTI) from the Open Detail Batch of the Central Railway’s Mumbai Division, has become the first ticket checking staff member in the division to cross the ₹1 crore mark in ticket checking earnings during the financial year 2025–26.
According to an official press release, Shams recorded total ticket checking earnings of ₹1,00,38,505 by detecting 11,483 cases of irregular or ticketless travel between April 1, 2025 and March 15, 2026. With this milestone, he has become the first ticket checking personnel in the Mumbai Division to achieve such a record in the current financial year.
Railway officials stated that his dedication and outstanding performance have significantly helped prevent revenue loss for the railways. His achievement has also enhanced the reputation of the ticket checking fraternity and set a benchmark for other staff members.
The Central Railway has urged passengers to travel only with valid tickets obtained from authorised vendors, railway booking counters, Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs), or through the official ticket booking portal of IRCTC.
Passengers can also book tickets using the Rail One mobile application, which allows users to conveniently purchase railway tickets through their smartphones.
Railway authorities reiterated their zero-tolerance policy towards ticketless travel, emphasizing their commitment to ensuring passengers have a safe, comfortable, and dignified journey.
The press release was issued by Dr. Swapnil Nila, Chief Public Relations Officer of Central Railway, from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus in Mumbai on March 15, 2026.
