Pune, March 16, 2026: The Transport Department has cautioned citizens about fraudulent websites, mobile applications and fake links being circulated through SMS and WhatsApp in the name of Regional Transport Office (RTO) services.

Officials said several cases have come to light where people have been targeted through fake portals offering services related to driving licences, vehicle registration and e-challan payments. These fraudulent platforms are designed to steal personal and financial information from unsuspecting users.

The department has advised citizens to use only official government websites with the “.gov.in” domain when accessing RTO-related services. People have also been warned against making payments through links shared on WhatsApp or downloading unauthorised APK applications, as these may be part of online scams.

Authorities urged residents to remain vigilant and verify the authenticity of any website or message before sharing personal details or making payments online.

In case of suspicious messages or links, citizens can report the matter through the Cyber Crime Helpline 1930, the official portal www.cybercrime.gov.in, or by filing a complaint at the nearest cyber police station.
