Over 70,900 Cases Settled In National Lok Adalat Across Pune District
Pune, March 16, 2026: A total of 70,909 cases were resolved during the National Lok Adalat held across Pune district on March 14, 2026, with authorities crediting the success to the active participation of litigants, lawyers and judicial officials.
The Lok Adalat was organised under the directives of the National Legal Services Authority, New Delhi, and the Maharashtra State Legal Services Authority, Mumbai. The event was conducted under the guidance of the Principal District and Sessions Judge and Chairperson of the District Legal Services Authority, Pune.
The programme was inaugurated in the presence of panel heads, members and litigants. M. K. Mahajan appealed to citizens to take advantage of Lok Adalat by resolving disputes through amicable settlements. The event began with traditional rangoli decorations and ceremonial music, creating a welcoming atmosphere.
Across Pune district, 124 panels were set up to hear cases including civil disputes, compoundable criminal cases, Negotiable Instruments Act matters, land acquisition disputes, family cases, motor accident claims, electricity bill disputes, bank recovery cases, telecom disputes, and local body water tax cases.
A total of 89,063 pending cases and 182,225 pre-litigation cases were placed before the panels. Of these, 10,116 pending cases and 60,793 pre-litigation cases were settled, resulting in the recovery of approximately ₹595.14 crore.

Notable settlements included:
- A motor accident claim in which a 10-year-old child who lost his vegetable vendor father received ₹18.5 lakh in compensation.
- Another accident claim involving the death of a person serving in the Indian Army was settled for ₹99 lakh, though the original claim was ₹2.5 crore.
- A commercial dispute worth ₹22 crore and another case valued at ₹16 crore were settled through mutual agreement.
- At the Debt Recovery Tribunal in Pune, 180 cases were resolved with recoveries totaling over ₹42.72 crore.
- The **Junnar taluka recorded a significant number of settlements for the first time.
- The Family Court in Pune disposed of 13 cases, including one conducted virtually, with seven couples successfully reconciling.
The Lok Adalat was organised with support from several institutions, including the district administration, police departments, municipal corporations, banks, financial institutions, the Pune Bar Association, and legal volunteers.
President of the Pune Prosecutors’ Association, Ram Bhujbal, said the legal fraternity would continue to support Lok Adalats and strengthen cooperation between the Bar and the Bench.
Officials also announced that the next National Lok Adalat in Pune district will be held on May 9, 2026. Revati Deshpande, Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority, Pune, urged citizens to participate and benefit from the upcoming session.
