Maharashtra Weather Update: Heatwave Alert After Unseasonal Rain, Yellow Alert in Several Districts

After unseasonal rain and hailstorms, Maharashtra may face rising temperatures and humid conditions. IMD issues a 48-hour heat alert across regions including Mumbai, Pune, Vidarbha, and Marathwada.

Pune, March 20, 2026: After days of unseasonal rain and hailstorms, parts of Maharashtra are now likely to experience rising temperatures, with the weather department issuing a 48-hour alert for heatwave-like conditions in several regions.

The recent spell of unseasonal weather, which affected areas in Marathwada and Vidarbha with thunderstorms and hail, is gradually subsiding. However, from March 21 onwards, a shift in weather patterns is expected, bringing hot and humid conditions across many parts of the state.

In Mumbai and the Konkan region, the weather is expected to turn hot and dry after a brief relief from unseasonal rain. From March 22, temperatures are likely to rise further, with a yellow alert issued for heat and humidity. Day temperatures are expected to range between 28°C and 34°C.

In parts of central Maharashtra, including Pune and Satara, dry weather conditions are expected with no forecast of rain. However, districts like Kolhapur, Sangli, and Solapur may witness gusty winds, lightning, and light rainfall. Solapur could see increased rainfall activity after the next 48 hours, with temperatures likely to touch 38°C.

North Maharashtra districts such as Nashik, Dhule, Nandurbar, and Jalgaon will see hot and dry weather, with maximum temperatures ranging between 28°C and 36°C over the next few days.

In Marathwada, including Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, dry conditions will prevail, though districts like Latur and Dharashiv may experience thunderstorms with lightning and light rain. A yellow alert has been issued for these areas.

Meanwhile, Nagpur and other parts of Vidarbha continue to remain under the impact of unstable weather, with chances of thunderstorms, lightning, and even hailstorms. Wind speeds of 30–50 km/h are expected, with temperatures ranging between 32°C and 40°C. Districts including Bhandara, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia, and Nagpur remain under a yellow alert.

The weather department noted that while rainfall activity is likely to reduce across most regions from March 21, the risk of isolated storms and hail persists in Vidarbha. At the same time, rising heat levels in Konkan and North Maharashtra could lead to discomfort.

Residents are advised to stay cautious, take necessary health precautions, and stay updated with local weather advisories.
