ATM Rules To Change From April 1: HDFC, PNB, Bandhan Bank Revise Limits And Charges
New financial year brings changes in withdrawal limits, free transactions and UPI ATM usage rules
With the start of the new financial year on April 1, 2026, major banks including HDFC Bank, Punjab National Bank (PNB), and Bandhan Bank have announced key changes to ATM withdrawal rules, directly impacting daily banking and cash usage for customers.
These updates include revised withdrawal limits, changes in free transaction counts, and new rules for UPI-based ATM withdrawals. Customers who frequently depend on ATMs for cash transactions are likely to feel the impact the most.
HDFC Bank: UPI ATM Withdrawals Now Count In Free Limit
HDFC Bank has introduced a major change in how UPI-based ATM withdrawals are treated. From April 1, these withdrawals will be included in the monthly free transaction limit. Earlier, UPI withdrawals were counted separately.
Once customers exceed their free transaction limit, they will be charged ₹23 plus applicable taxes per transaction. This move brings UPI ATM withdrawals at par with regular debit card withdrawals and reflects the increasing use of card-less cash withdrawal systems.
PNB: Daily ATM Withdrawal Limits Reduced
Punjab National Bank has revised daily ATM withdrawal limits across several debit card variants.
For many commonly used cards, the limit has been reduced from ₹1 lakh to ₹50,000. These include RuPay NCMC Platinum variants, RuPay Women Power Platinum, RuPay Palaash, RuPay Business Platinum, MasterCard Platinum, and VISA Gold debit cards.
For premium cards such as RuPay Select, VISA Signature, and MasterCard Business debit cards, the limit has been reduced from ₹1.5 lakh to ₹75,000.
The bank stated that these changes aim to strengthen risk control measures, enhance customer safety, and promote secure digital banking. There is no change in limits for POS transactions, e-commerce payments, or contactless usage.
Bandhan Bank: Free ATM Transactions Revised
Bandhan Bank has updated the number of free ATM transactions allowed per month.
Customers will now get five free financial transactions at Bandhan Bank ATMs, along with unlimited non-financial transactions such as balance checks.
For other bank ATMs, customers will be allowed three free transactions in metro cities and five in non-metro cities.
Metro cities include Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai, and New Delhi, while all other cities fall under the non-metro category.
What It Means For Customers
These changes are expected to affect how customers manage their cash withdrawals and banking habits. With stricter limits and revised free transaction rules, exceeding limits may lead to additional charges.
Banks have advised customers to check updated rules through official banking platforms such as mobile apps, internet banking, or customer service channels to avoid unexpected fees.
