Pune, March 27, 2026: At least 17 people were injured in a clash between two groups during the annual Ekvira Devi Palkhi festival at Karla Fort near Lonavala in Pune’s Maval Tehsil. The incident occurred over the two-day festival held on March 25-26.

Police said the violence erupted on Wednesday night and continued into Thursday afternoon at the foothills of the Ekvira temple. The conflict involved members of Panvel Koliwada and Kalyan Koliwada, who were disputing who would carry the goddess’s palkhi. Disagreements over decoration expenses and comments on social media reportedly escalated the tension. Stones were thrown by both sides, and dry grass was set on fire, causing panic among devotees.

Authorities, including local police and temple trust members, intervened to control the situation. Cases have been registered, and the area remains under heightened security.
