Pune: Residents Raise Alarm Over Reckless PMC Garbage Dumpers In Lulla Nagar, Demand Strict Action
Pune, March 27, 2026: A recent incident involving a Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) garbage dumper has sparked outrage among residents, who accuse the civic body and police administration of negligence. On March 26, a PMC garbage truck (MH12UF2205) traveling towards Lulla Nagar near 96 Avenue Mall Road collided with an oncoming vehicle near the underpass between Command Hospital and Gera Junction signal.
When the vehicle owner stopped the dumper to question the driver, it was revealed that the driver had no license, no identification, and was not wearing a seatbelt. The driver allegedly threatened citizens, claiming he was part of “essential services.” A complaint was filed with the police, but only a nominal NC was recorded, containing incorrect details and no information about the driver. The police reportedly advised citizens to upload photos on the PTP app to impose fines, raising concerns over enforcement priorities.
Akshay Jain, General Secretary of Maharashtra Pradesh Youth Congress, demanded that PMC contractors and officials be held accountable, all garbage vehicles undergo immediate inspections, and strict penalties be imposed for violations to prevent further accidents. Residents stressed that continued inaction puts lives at serious risk.
