DGP directive enforces strict compliance, CCTV monitoring and public reporting to ensure safety discipline

Rule Applies For All Police Personnel
Pune Police have made helmets compulsory for all personnel riding two-wheelers in the city, following a directive issued by Director General of Police (DGP) Sadanand Date. The order applies to everyone in the force, including constables and senior officers.

The directive was issued through a circular from the DGP office, highlighting that police personnel in several parts of the state—except Mumbai and Nagpur—often fail to wear helmets while riding.

Police Must Lead By Example
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Himmat Jadhav emphasised that police must set an example for citizens. He confirmed that strict action will be taken against any personnel found violating the rule.

“We will fine all police personnel, including constables and officers, if they are found riding without helmets,” Jadhav said.

Citizens Can Report Violators
Authorities have also involved the public in ensuring compliance. Citizens can report police personnel riding without helmets by uploading photographs along with vehicle registration numbers on the Pune Traffic Police mobile application.

Officials said these complaints will be reviewed and strict action will follow.

CCTV Monitoring And Helmet Distribution
To strengthen enforcement, CCTV cameras will be used to identify violators across the city. Additionally, the traffic department has distributed helmets to police personnel to ensure there are no excuses for non-compliance.

Push For Better Road Safety
The decision comes after a review meeting held in Nagpur, where the DGP raised concerns over low helmet usage among police personnel across Maharashtra.

Officials believe the move will not only improve safety within the police force but also encourage citizens to follow traffic rules more seriously.
