Pune, April 15, 2026: In a major crackdown on illegal liquor transportation, Pune Police arrested one person and seized foreign liquor worth over ₹23 lakh along with a vehicle during a special operation conducted in the Yerwada area.

The action was taken by Laxminagar Police Station following intelligence inputs about illegal activities ahead of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti. Acting on instructions from senior officials, police intensified checks against illicit trade within their jurisdiction.

According to police, a tip-off was received on April 14 that a black Scorpio vehicle bearing registration number MH 14 LP 7474 was transporting foreign liquor illegally towards the Nagar Road route. The information was passed on to night patrol officers, following which a trap was laid near Shahadwal Baba Chowk, Central College area in Yerwada.

Police intercepted the suspicious vehicle and questioned the driver, who identified himself as Angrejsingh Puran Singh Gill (38), a resident of Ramnagar, Bopkhel near Buddha Vihar in Pune.

Upon inspection, officers found multiple brands of foreign liquor stored in the vehicle’s boot. The estimated value of the seized liquor was around ₹2 lakh, while the total seized property, including the Scorpio vehicle and a mobile phone, was assessed at approximately ₹23.30 lakh.

The operation was carried out under the guidance of senior police officials from the Pune Police Commissionerate, including the Additional Commissioner of Police (East Region), Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 4), and Assistant Commissioner of Police, Yerwada Division.

The action was executed by the Laxminagar Police Station team, including senior inspectors and crime branch personnel, who have been conducting intensified checks against illegal liquor transportation and other unlawful activities in the area.

Further investigation is underway to determine the source and intended distribution network of the seized liquor.
