Pune, April 16, 2026: A heated confrontation between two BJP corporators inside the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has sparked fresh allegations of “percentage cuts” in civic projects, after a video of the incident went viral on social media.

The clash, which took place on Wednesday within the civic body’s building department, reportedly involved a verbal altercation, exchange of abuses, and chaotic scenes, triggering a political controversy.

The dispute revolves around an under-construction residential education centre for tribal girl students in Baner. According to officials, nearly 85–90% of the project has already been completed. A tender worth approximately ₹3 crore for the remaining work has been approved by the standing committee.

However, tensions escalated during the final stage of the project over alleged demands for commission.

Former corporator Rajashree Kale, who has been actively following up on the project, visited the PMC office where sitting corporator Rohini Chimte and the contractor were present. An argument broke out between the two leaders regarding the execution of the remaining work, which soon escalated into a heated exchange with serious allegations.

Kale alleged that the project was being deliberately delayed due to demands for a “percentage cut.” She claimed that the corporator had warned the contractor not to proceed with the work until the alleged commission was paid, accusing her of misusing her position to exert pressure.

Chimte, however, strongly denied the allegations. She stated that the disagreement stemmed from pending work on the compound wall. “The boundary wall is incomplete and is causing inconvenience to nearby residents. I only insisted that this work be completed first. The issue has been misrepresented,” she said.

The incident has once again brought the issue of alleged commission practices in civic projects into the spotlight, raising concerns over transparency and governance within the PMC.
