Pune: 11-Month-Old Girl Dies Due To Alleged Medical Negligence; Case Filed Against 6 Hospital Staff
Pune, April 18, 2026: A shocking case of alleged medical negligence has emerged in Pune, where an 11-month-old girl reportedly died due to improper treatment at a private hospital in Navi Peth, sparking outrage.
Based on the findings of an expert committee from Sassoon General Hospital, the Sahakarnagar Police have registered a case against six individuals, including four doctors and two nurses. Those booked include Dr. Mukund Sangamnerkar, Dr. Ganesh Arekar, Dr. Shridhar Jadhav, Dr. Radha Sangamnerkar, and nurses Manisha Shinde and Sarika Sutar. The complaint was filed by the child’s father, Hanumant Dattarao Gite (34), a resident of Balajinagar, Dhankawadi.
According to the complaint, the infant, Aditi (11 months), was admitted to the hospital in May 2025 after suffering from vomiting. Her father has alleged that despite her critical condition, the medical staff failed to provide appropriate treatment and instead administered incorrect procedures, which led to her death.
Following the complaint, the case was referred to a medical expert committee at Sassoon Hospital for investigation. The committee concluded that there were significant lapses in treatment and attributed the child’s death to medical negligence.
Subsequently, a case has been registered under the Maharashtra Medical Practitioners Act, 2023, against the accused doctors and nurses. The investigation is currently being conducted by Police Sub-Inspector Kale at Sahakarnagar Police Station.
The incident has once again raised serious concerns over medical negligence in the healthcare sector, with demands growing for strict action against those found responsible.
