Pune, April 25, 2026:
The Pune Metro is set to expand its Aqua Line (Metro Line 2), bringing improved connectivity to the city’s western suburbs. The existing Vanaz–Ramwadi corridor will now be extended from Vanaz to Chandani Chowk, offering relief to commuters in this rapidly growing region.

The extension, which received approval last year, has now entered the execution phase. The elevated stretch will be expanded by approximately 1.5 kilometres and will include two new stations—Kothrud Depot and Chandani Chowk—enhancing metro access at a key entry point to the city.

Officials stated that construction will be carried out in phases to minimise disruption to traffic. Coordination with traffic police is underway, with barricading and road management plans being prepared to ensure smoother vehicular movement during the work.

As part of the project, a new flyover is also being planned near the Kothrud Depot to ease congestion in the area. Authorities have already identified locations and alignments for the proposed structure.

Additionally, a pedestrian bridge is being planned near the Chandani Chowk metro station to provide safe and direct access for commuters, especially across the busy highway junction. Preliminary activities such as soil testing and surveys have already commenced, and work on extending the viaduct near Vanaz depot has been completed.

The extension is expected to significantly improve last-mile connectivity for residents in western Pune, particularly those who previously had to depend on other modes of transport to reach the nearest metro station at Vanaz. Once operational, the project is likely to reduce traffic congestion and make daily commuting more convenient for thousands of passengers.
