Pune IT Professional Died After Falling Under Water Tanker in Ravet, Residents Raise Safety Concerns
Pimpri Chinchwad: A 36-year-old IT professional lost his life in a tragic road accident in Ravet after falling under a speeding water tanker following a collision with another two-wheeler.
The deceased, identified as Ravindra Hanumant Lature, a resident of Ravet, was returning home on Sunday evening after visiting a local laundry when the accident took place near Renuka Gloria Society around 5:35 pm.
According to police, Lature’s motorcycle collided with another two-wheeler, causing him to lose balance and fall onto the road. At the same moment, a water tanker coming from the opposite direction ran over him, killing him on the spot.
Ravet Police have registered a case against the tanker driver, a 38-year-old resident of Dehu Road, based on a complaint filed by the victim’s brother.
Sub-Inspector Rahul Khile said police have collected CCTV footage from the spot, but the footage has not clearly established how the collision unfolded. Further investigation is underway.
Police have booked the tanker driver under Sections 106(1) and 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.
The incident has once again brought attention to the growing number of fatal water tanker accidents in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad. Residents pointed out that while this is the first such death in Pimpri-Chinchwad, Pune city has already recorded four similar tanker-related fatalities this month.
Recent incidents include the death of a 47-year-old eatery owner in Bibvewadi-Lullanagar, a 43-year-old man in Hadapsar, and two youngsters in separate accidents in Mohammadwadi and Wanowrie earlier this month.
Locals say the rising dependence on private water tankers, due to irregular municipal water supply, has increased the movement of these heavy vehicles, especially during summer.
