Pune: PMC Makes Salunke Vihar Road Hawker-Free; Crackdown on Illegal Vendors to Continue
Pune, April 28, 2026:Â
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has taken decisive action to clear encroachments along Salunke Vihar Road in the Wanawadi area, making the stretch hawker-free and easing long-standing traffic congestion. Authorities have confirmed that similar action against illegal hawkers will continue in the coming days.
Acting on the instructions of the Assistant Municipal Commissioner, an anti-encroachment drive was carried out in Ward 18 covering the Wanawadi–Salunke Vihar locality. During the operation, civic teams removed a total of 37 encroachments, including 8 handcarts, 17 pavement vendors, and 12 other unauthorized structures.

The drive was conducted under the guidance of Regional Encroachment Inspector Sanjay Jadhav, with Encroachment Inspector Megha Raut and Assistant Encroachment Inspector Ravi Jadhav leading the on-ground execution. The operation involved a team of 13 civic workers, 12 MSF personnel, and two trucks to clear the seized material.
Officials stated that the action was necessary as illegal hawkers had occupied both the road and footpaths, leading to frequent traffic bottlenecks and inconvenience to commuters. Following the clearance, the stretch has become significantly more accessible, allowing smoother vehicular movement and safer pedestrian access.
PMC officials reiterated that strict enforcement drives will continue across the city to curb unauthorized hawking and ensure obstruction-free roads.
