Pune Bound Travellers Go Through Nightmare Due To Heavy Congestion At Mankhurd; Actress Sonali Kulkarni Stuck For 5 Hours
Mumbai, April 30, 2026:
A major traffic jam was reported in the Mankhurd area on Wednesday night (April 29), causing severe inconvenience to commuters. The congestion occurred after a large machine, brought in for excavation work on a flyover, collapsed on the road late Tuesday night. As a result, traffic on the busy Sion-Panvel Highway remained disrupted throughout Wednesday and into the night.
Commuters travelling a distance that typically takes 15–20 minutes were stuck in traffic for nearly four to five hours. Among those affected was popular actress Sonalee Kulkarni.
Kulkarni, who was travelling to Pune on Wednesday night, got stranded on the Mankhurd bridge for almost five hours. The prolonged standstill caused significant distress to her and several other passengers.
The actress shared a video of the situation on social media, showing long queues of vehicles stretching across the bridge. In the video, she said, “Hello, I am at Mankhurd bridge… it has been nearly five hours, and I have been stuck in this traffic jam all this time. I was heading to Pune, but you can see the situation around me. We even contacted the traffic control team, but they have asked us to stay calm and not panic as the jam is massive. Even they are unsure when the situation will return to normal.”
She also mentioned that turning back was not an option due to the lack of an alternative route and appealed to commuters coming from the opposite direction for updates or assistance.
Authorities are yet to confirm when normal traffic movement will be fully restored in the area.
