Pune, April 30, 2026: The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has issued a stern warning to officials, stating that they will be held directly accountable if waterlogging issues continue in Hinjawadi IT Park and surrounding areas during the monsoon.

PMRDA Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Abhijit Chaudhari said that any flooding caused due to poor planning or negligence will attract action under the Disaster Management Act. He emphasized that responsibility will be fixed on concerned officials if such situations lead to damage or risk to life.

The warning was issued during a pre-monsoon disaster management meeting held at the PMRDA headquarters in Akurdi on April 29. The administration has set a strict deadline of May 31, 2026, for completing all drainage-related works in the Hinjawadi and Maan IT Park areas.

Every year, heavy rains lead to severe waterlogging in Hinjawadi, causing major traffic congestion and inconvenience to commuters. Stressing the need for on-ground implementation rather than just meetings, Dr. Chaudhari directed agencies including the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), MIDC, PMRDA, local gram panchayats, and the irrigation department to work in close coordination.

He also instructed authorities not to shift responsibility and to ensure proper drainage, especially along major nullahs and internal IT park roads.

Key directions issued during the meeting include immediate desilting of major drains in the Hinjawadi-Maan area, along with their widening and deepening. All encroachments obstructing natural water flow must be removed before May 31. Authorities were also directed to ensure smooth discharge of rainwater through natural drainage channels.

To tackle traffic congestion during the monsoon, it was decided to implement measures suggested by the Pimpri-Chinchwad Traffic Police. Senior Police Inspector Rahul Sonawane from the Hinjawadi traffic division presented details of identified flooding-prone “black spots” in the IT park area.

“ No compromise will be tolerated in pre-monsoon works. All tasks must be completed by May 31. If technical lapses or poor planning result in damage to public property or loss of life, strict action will be taken against the responsible officials,” said Dr. Chaudhari.

The meeting was attended by senior officials from PMRDA, MIDC, the water resources department, Pimpri-Chinchwad Traffic Police, district administration, forest department, NHAI, and local gram panchayats.
