Pune, May 1, 2026: The tunnel constructed under the Missing Link project on the Yashwantrao Chavan Expressway has been recognised as the world’s widest underground tunnel, earning a place in the Guinness World Records.

The certificate for this global achievement was formally presented to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis during a programme held on Maharashtra Day. The tunnel was recently inaugurated and opened for public use as part of the expressway’s Missing Link project aimed at improving travel efficiency.

According to officials, the tunnel has a record-breaking width of 22.33 metres, making it the widest of its kind in the world. The project has been executed by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), with technical inputs shared during the event.
