Census 2027 In Pune: Over 8,000 Residents Complete Self-Enumeration On Day One
Pune, May 1, 2026: The first phase of Census 2027 has begun, and more than 8,000 citizens in Pune district completed self-enumeration on the very first day, officials said.
Additional District Collector Satish Raut stated that the census is an important national exercise conducted under the provisions of the Census Act, 1948. He urged citizens to actively participate, noting that accurate data collection is essential for effective policy-making and overall development of the district.

The self-enumeration phase will continue till May 15, 2026, and citizens can submit their details online https://se.census.gov.in through the official portal. Participation in this phase is optional. From May 16 to June 14, enumerators will visit households to collect information directly.
Officials highlighted that this is the first time self-enumeration has been introduced in India, allowing individuals to fill in their family details online independently. The process takes around 15 to 20 minutes, and once completed, a Self-Enumeration ID (SEID) is generated and sent to the registered mobile number or email. No documents are required to be uploaded.
To support the process, around 13,000 field staff, including enumerators and supervisors, have been trained across the district. Authorities also assured that strong data security systems are in place, including encryption, multi-level authentication, and restricted access to ensure the safety of information.
Citizens have been encouraged to not only complete their own details but also motivate others in their communities to participate in the census process.
