Pune, May 5, 2026: In a major crackdown on illegal land use, the Pune district administration has taken possession of 15 land parcels after uncovering widespread violations in leased and special-category lands across Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad.

The action was led by District Collector Jitendra Dudi, who ordered a detailed investigation into irregularities involving temple lands, watan lands, tribal lands, and government-leased properties. The probe revealed large-scale misuse and breach of lease conditions.

Officials found that in many cases, land allotted for specific purposes was being used for entirely different activities. These included converting residential plots into commercial establishments such as shops and malls, subleasing land without government approval, and altering membership structures of institutions to bypass regulations.

The investigation has so far identified violations in around 360 cases. Out of these, 15 properties have already been taken back by the administration, while six proposals have been forwarded to the state government for final action. Decisions on more than 300 cases are expected in the coming weeks.

The crackdown follows a series of high-profile land misuse cases, including irregularities linked to a botanical garden in Mundhwa and government land in areas like Bopodi and Tathawade. These incidents prompted the revenue department to initiate a wider review of land allotments.

Authorities have made it clear that strict action will continue against those found violating land-use norms. The move has sent strong signals across the real estate sector and political circles, indicating tighter enforcement and scrutiny in the district.
