Pune: Rajbhavan Road Widening Work Finally Begins, Relief Likely For Aundh Pashan Residents
Pune, May 7, 2026: The long-pending widening work of Rajbhavan Road, now known as Lokbhavan Marg, has finally gained momentum in Pune’s Pashan–Aundh area, with the project officially commencing on Wednesday. The initiative is expected to provide major relief from persistent traffic congestion in the region.
The work was inaugurated in the presence of MLA Siddharth Shirole and Deputy Mayor Parshuram Wadekar.
The road widening project had remained delayed for several years due to the presence of heritage structures belonging to the police department located in the middle of the road. Although necessary permissions had already been granted, a lack of coordination between departments had stalled the project.

Corporator Sunny Vinayak Nimhan had been consistently pursuing the matter and had met Additional Commissioner Divte to demand resolution of the hurdles affecting the project.
Following these efforts, the administration initiated the process of relocating and removing the police buildings. After completion of the tendering process, work on the road widening has now officially begun, bringing relief to residents and daily commuters in the area.
Rajbhavan (Lokbhavan) Road serves as an important link between the Pune Municipal Corporation and the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation areas. The road also witnesses heavy daily traffic and frequent movement of VIP convoys. Authorities expect the widening work to significantly reduce congestion in the Aundh–Pashan belt.
The development is also expected to accelerate the proposed flyover project between Bremen Chowk and the Aundh Rajiv Gandhi Bridge, leading to further improvements in traffic management across the area.
Among those present during the inauguration were corporator Bhakti Gaikwad, Sapna Chhajed, along with officials from the Heritage Department, Building Department, Road Department and Motor Transport Department.
