Mumbai, May 9: The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) on Friday announced the Class 10 Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination results for 2026, with the overall state pass percentage standing at 92.09%. The result marks a decline of over two percentage points compared to last year’s 94.10%.

Despite the dip in the statewide performance, the Pune division recorded an impressive pass percentage of 94.24%, emerging among the better-performing regions in Maharashtra.

The SSC examinations were conducted between February 20 and March 18 across nine divisional boards, including Pune, Mumbai, Nagpur, Nashik, Kolhapur, Konkan, Latur, Amravati and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.

According to official data, more than 15.55 lakh students had registered for the examination, while over 15.42 lakh students appeared. Out of them, nearly 14.20 lakh students successfully cleared the exams.

The board also reported that over 29,000 private candidates had enrolled for the SSC examinations, with a pass percentage of 76.33%. Meanwhile, repeat candidates recorded a lower success rate of 33.79%.

Girls continued to outperform boys in this year’s examinations. Female students achieved a pass percentage of 94.96%, while boys recorded 89.56%.

Among all divisions, the Konkan region registered the highest pass percentage at 97.62%, whereas Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar recorded the lowest result at 88.41%.

A total of 179 students across Maharashtra secured a perfect score of 100%. The Latur division contributed the highest number of top scorers, while Pune division recorded 12 students with full marks.

Officials also stated that 20 out of the 64 subjects conducted by the board achieved a 100% pass result this year.

Speaking about the decline in the overall pass percentage, Trigun Kulkarni said stricter anti-cheating measures played a key role. CCTV surveillance was made compulsory at examination centres, and staff reshuffling was carried out at centres lacking surveillance facilities to ensure transparency.

The board deployed 271 flying squads, including women-led vigilance teams, to monitor examinations across the state.

Authorities also took action against malpractice cases during the exams. A total of 402 cheating-related cases were reported statewide, including 42 from the Pune division. Four FIRs were registered — three in Pune and one in Latur — while five staff members faced suspension over alleged irregularities.

Despite tighter monitoring and stricter examination protocols, Pune division maintained strong academic performance, with 1,140 schools recording a 100% result in the SSC examinations this year.
