Pune Heritage Walks Offer A Glimpse Into The City’s Historic Wadas, Temples And Culture
Pune, May 12, 2026: Known today as one of India’s fastest-growing IT hubs, Pune continues to preserve its deep-rooted cultural and historical identity through its iconic heritage walks. Beyond the city’s modern skyline and booming commercial spaces lies a rich legacy of Maratha-era wadas, ancient temples, and historic landmarks that reflect Pune’s status as Maharashtra’s cultural capital.

To help residents and tourists explore the city comfortably, heritage walks are conducted early in the morning. Beginning from the historic Shaniwar Wada, the guided tour covers nearly a dozen prominent heritage sites across the old city over a span of around three hours. The walk combines history, architecture, and culture while offering participants a chance to experience Pune’s timeless charm.

The tour starts at the iconic Shaniwar Wada, once the seat of the Peshwas and a symbol of the Maratha Empire. Despite suffering severe damage in a fire in 1828, the fort remains one of Pune’s most significant historical landmarks.
Another important stop is Kasba Ganpati, regarded as Pune’s oldest Ganpati temple and honoured as the “Manacha Pahila Ganpati.”
