Pune: Bhidewada National Memorial To Be Completed Within A Year
Pune, May 13, 2026: Maharashtra Minister for Other Backward Bahujan Welfare Atul Save on Wednesday said that the work on the Bhidewada National Memorial in Pune will be completed within the next year. The announcement comes as the state government plans a series of initiatives to mark the 200th birth anniversary of social reformer Mahatma Jyotiba Phule.
Minister Save made the statement while reviewing the ongoing work at the memorial site. Senior officials, including Additional Commissioner Prajit Nair, Superintending Engineer Bipin Shinde, Nilesh Girme, Bhidewada National Memorial Committee Chairman Ajay Khedekar, and PMPML Chairman and Corporator Prashant Doke, were present during the inspection.

Speaking on the occasion, Save said the memorial project was initiated after discussions with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, and late Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar to preserve and showcase the legacy of Savitribai Phule and Mahatma Phule.
He stated that nearly 90 per cent of the memorial work has already been completed through the Pune Municipal Corporation and expressed satisfaction over the progress. Save also directed officials to expedite the remaining development work.
During the visit, Additional Commissioner Prajit Nair briefed the minister about the development plan and facilities being created as part of the memorial project.
The memorial will feature several modern attractions based on the lives and contributions of Savitribai Phule and Mahatma Phule. Planned facilities include theme-based audio-visual presentations, holographic shows, and exhibits displaying information about the reformers and their work. The memorial will also house skill development and guidance centres for girls and women, a computer training centre, and an amphitheatre.
