Maharashtra Weather Alert For May 15: Heatwave, Thunderstorms Likely Across State; IMD Issues Yellow Alert for 18 Districts
Maharashtra, May 14, 2026: Maharashtra is expected to witness a major weather shift over the next 24 hours, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing yellow alerts for both heatwave conditions and unseasonal rainfall across multiple districts of the state.
According to the weather department, 11 districts have been placed under a heatwave yellow alert for May 15, while seven districts are likely to experience thunderstorms, gusty winds, and moderate rainfall. Officials have warned of a dual weather challenge involving rising temperatures and sudden pre-monsoon rain activity.

Heatwave Alert in Konkan, Marathwada and Vidarbha
In the Konkan region, yellow alerts for intense heat have been issued for Palghar, Thane, Mumbai, and Raigad districts. Authorities said hot and humid conditions are expected to persist throughout the day, and citizens have been advised to avoid stepping outdoors during afternoon hours unless necessary.
In Marathwada, the IMD has predicted continued heatwave conditions in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Parbhani, and Hingoli districts. Temperatures in these areas are likely to rise further, increasing discomfort levels for residents.
Vidarbha is also expected to remain under severe heat stress, particularly in Akola, Amravati, and Wardha districts, where temperatures may reach high levels during peak afternoon hours. Farmers, outdoor workers, and senior citizens have been advised to take extra precautions.
Rain and Thunderstorm Alert in Seven Districts
At the same time, yellow alerts for rainfall and thunderstorms have been issued in Sindhudurg, Nanded, Latur, Dharashiv, Kolhapur, Sangli, and Solapur districts.
The IMD has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, moderate rainfall, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40 to 50 kmph in some areas. Cloudy skies and sudden weather changes are also likely in parts of western Maharashtra.
Light Rain Possible in Pune, Satara and Ratnagiri
Although no official alert has been issued for Pune, Satara, Ratnagiri, and Beed districts, the weather department has not ruled out the possibility of light to moderate rainfall in isolated areas. Cloud cover may increase during the afternoon and evening hours.
The IMD stated that weather conditions are expected to remain mostly dry across the remaining parts of Maharashtra, though heat intensity will continue in several regions.
Citizens have been advised to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, and follow official weather advisories issued by local authorities.
