Delivery Executive Arrested After Alleged Sexual Harassment Inside Woman's Home
Police register case under BNS after woman alleges delivery agent forced his way into her apartment despite repeated refusals; company terminates his services.
A delivery executive has been arrested in Bengaluru after a woman alleged that he forcibly entered her apartment and sexually harassed her while delivering a parcel.
According to Bengaluru Police, the accused was arrested after the woman filed a complaint detailing the incident. A case has been registered under Sections 75, 79 and 329(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and further investigation is underway.
The woman shared her experience on social media, alleging that the delivery executive arrived at her home with a package before asking if he could use her washroom.
She said she politely refused several times, explaining that she does not allow strangers inside her home. She also suggested that he seek help from male neighbours living nearby if it was an emergency.
Despite her repeated refusals, the woman alleged that the delivery executive removed his footwear and entered her apartment without permission.
According to her complaint, after using the washroom, the man allegedly exposed himself before leaving the flat.
“I politely refused multiple times and clearly told him that I do not allow strangers inside my flat. I even suggested that he ask the male neighbours next door since it was an emergency. Despite my repeated refusals, he forcefully entered my home without my permission,” she stated.
Describing the incident, she said she felt “shocked, violated, humiliated and completely unsafe” in her own home.
The accused has been identified as Vijay Mallikarjun Kamat. Police said prompt action was taken after they verified the complaint, leading to his arrest.
Following the incident, Flipkart said it had immediately terminated the delivery partner’s engagement.
“We are deeply disturbed by the incident and are extending our full support to the customer. Customer safety is non-negotiable. As soon as the matter came to our attention, we immediately terminated the engagement of the delivery partner involved. An FIR has been registered, and we are fully committed to cooperate with the investigating authorities,” the company said in a statement.
The company added that all delivery partners undergo background verification and mandatory training before onboarding. It also said it is reviewing the incident to determine whether additional safety measures are needed to strengthen customer protection.
Police have urged people to report such incidents immediately so timely legal action can be taken.
Safety Tips for Home Deliveries
- Do not allow unknown delivery personnel inside your home, even if they request to use the washroom or ask for water.
- Keep the main door partially secured using a safety latch or grill gate while accepting deliveries whenever possible.
- Opt for contactless delivery if available, especially when you are alone at home.
- Verify the delivery person’s identity through the app before opening the door.
- If you feel uncomfortable, trust your instincts. End the interaction and contact the company’s customer support immediately.
- Share live location or inform a family member or neighbour if you are expecting a delivery while alone.
- Report inappropriate behaviour without delay to the police and the delivery platform. Prompt reporting can help prevent similar incidents.
- Preserve evidence, including CCTV footage, app details, delivery records, screenshots and messages, to assist the investigation.
