Pune District Annual Plan Increased By ₹93 Crore Compared To Last Year, Says Deputy CM Sunetra Ajit Pawar

Pune, May 15, 2026: In a major push for Pune district’s overall development, the Maharashtra government has approved an allocation of ₹1,472 crore under the District Annual Plan (General) for the financial year 2026-27. The allocation marks an increase of ₹93 crore compared to the previous financial year.

The announcement was made during a District Planning Committee meeting chaired by Deputy Chief Minister and Guardian Minister Sunetra Ajit Pawar through a video conferencing system at the Divisional Commissioner’s office.

The meeting focused on accelerating infrastructure development, tourism, healthcare, education, disaster management and rural development projects across Pune district. Deputy CM Pawar instructed officials to ensure that all development works are completed within stipulated timelines while maintaining high quality standards.

Ministers, MPs, MLAs and Senior Officials Attend Meeting

Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil, Agriculture Minister Dattatray Bharane, Members of Parliament and MLAs participated in the meeting virtually.

Present physically at the meeting were MP Medha Kulkarni, Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi, Zilla Parishad CEO Gajanan Patil and District Planning Officer Kiran Indalkar.

The meeting was conducted online following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal encouraging digital governance and virtual administrative meetings.

Review of Previous Year’s Fund Utilisation

During the meeting, officials reviewed fund utilisation for the financial year 2025-26 and approved the district development planning for 2026-27.

Collector Jitendra Dudi informed the committee that Pune district had received a total allocation of ₹1,589.46 crore during 2025-26, including:

  • ₹1,379 crore under the District Annual Plan (General)
  • ₹145 crore under the Scheduled Caste Sub-Plan
  • ₹65.46 crore under the Tribal Component Programme

He stated that the district administration successfully achieved 100 percent utilisation of the allocated funds.

Officials added that priority was given to completing ongoing development projects instead of leaving works incomplete, and strict planning mechanisms were implemented to ensure timely completion.

Special Focus on Schools, Water Scarcity and Public Safety

Deputy CM Sunetra Ajit Pawar directed officials to prioritise construction of protective compound walls around schools located in leopard-prone areas to ensure student safety.

She also instructed district authorities to allocate necessary funds for the development of crematoriums across Pune district.

The Deputy CM further emphasised proper planning of facilities at major pilgrimage locations witnessing large gatherings of devotees and instructed officials to share details of innovative development schemes with all committee members.

Administration Asked to Prepare for Possible Weak Monsoon

Taking note of the possible impact of El Niño conditions, Deputy CM Pawar warned that rainfall could remain below normal this year and instructed the administration to prepare advance planning for agriculture and drinking water supply.

She announced that a separate meeting involving the Water Resources Minister and public representatives would soon be held to discuss concrete measures for drought and water scarcity management.

Special instructions were also issued for water-scarce areas including Baramati to ensure relief measures for citizens.

Traffic Congestion and Flash Flood Management Discussed

The meeting also addressed Pune city’s worsening traffic congestion. Deputy CM Pawar directed all concerned agencies to work in coordination to find long-term solutions to traffic problems in Pune and surrounding areas.

In view of recent extreme weather events, she instructed the Pune Municipal Corporation and other departments to effectively implement disaster management plans to prevent flash flood-like situations in the city.

Transparency in Public Spending Emphasised

Deputy CM Pawar stressed that every rupee spent by the government belongs to taxpayers and must therefore be utilised with transparency and honesty.

She also assured positive decisions regarding the allocation of land for Anganwadis and funds for animal husbandry, tourism development and pilgrimage site infrastructure projects.

Major Innovative Projects Highlighted

Officials informed the committee that several innovative and people-centric schemes were effectively implemented during the previous financial year. These included:

  • Pune Grand Tour Project
  • Agro Hackathon
  • Ideal Schools Initiative
  • Smart Primary Health Centres

Authorities said these initiatives significantly contributed to improving infrastructure, healthcare, tourism and education across both rural and urban parts of Pune district.

Special emphasis is also being placed on the use of modern technology, digital planning systems and quality monitoring in development projects.

Big Push for Religious Tourism and Heritage Development

For the financial year 2026-27, substantial funding has also been earmarked for several ambitious projects, including:

  • Pune Grand Tour Road Project
  • Bhimashankar Development Plan linked to Kumbh Mela preparations
  • Shri Kshetra Bhimashankar Ideal Village Development Plan
  • Sant Tukaram Maharaj Birthplace Development Project
  • Sinhagad Fort Comprehensive Development Plan

Officials said these projects are expected to boost religious tourism, heritage conservation, rural infrastructure and economic development across Pune district.

The meeting also saw participation from Devendra Fadnavis’s administration representatives and several public representatives including Manjusha Nagpure, MP Shrirang Barne and MLAs Dilip Walse Patil, Sharad Sonawane, Rahul Kul, Vijay Shivtare, Shankar Jagtap, Sunil Shelke, Babasaheb Kale, Sunil Kamble, Dnyaneshwar Katke, Uma Khapre, Shankar Mandekar and Bhimrao Tapkir, who raised various developmental issues during the meeting.
