Amid rising inflation and increasing household expenses, Gokul Milk has announced a hike in cow milk prices, days after Amul raised milk rates across the country. The latest increase is expected to add further financial pressure on consumers already grappling with rising prices of essential commodities.

The Kolhapur District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union issued a statement confirming that the prices of all poly-pack cow milk variants sold under the Gokul brand will be increased by Rs 2 per litre. The revised rates will come into effect from May 21.

The price hike will apply to Gokul milk distributed in Mumbai city and suburbs, Thane, Raigad and Palghar districts, where the brand has a significant consumer base.

Gokul Milk Price Hike Comes Days After Amul Increase

The move follows Amul’s recent decision to increase milk prices by Rs 2 per litre nationwide from May 14. The revised Amul prices were implemented across variants including Amul Gold, Amul Taaza, Amul Shakti, Tea Special and Slim & Trim milk.

Industry observers say Gokul’s decision reflects increasing operational costs faced by dairy cooperatives amid inflationary pressures.

Rising Fuel, Packaging and Transport Costs Behind Milk Price Hike

According to the Gokul administration, the milk price revision was necessary due to rising production and distribution expenses. Officials cited higher fuel prices, increased transportation costs, packaging expenses and rising raw material prices as key reasons behind the increase.

The administration stated that the Rs 2 per litre hike was unavoidable to sustain dairy operations and maintain supply chains.

No Increase in Buffalo Milk Prices

While cow milk prices have gone up, consumers using buffalo milk have received some relief. Gokul has clarified that there will be no increase in buffalo milk prices for now.
