Maharashtra Government Grants ‘A’ Class Tourism Status to Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati Temple in Pune

In a major boost to religious tourism in Maharashtra, the state government has granted ‘A’ class tourism area status to the iconic Shreemant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati Temple in Pune. The decision is expected to accelerate the overall development of the temple precinct and strengthen Pune’s position as a major spiritual and cultural tourism destination.
The temple was previously classified under the ‘C’ category. However, considering the rapidly increasing number of devotees visiting the shrine every year, the Maharashtra government has upgraded its status to an ‘A’ class tourism area.
Major Infrastructure and Beautification Plans Announced
With the new classification, the temple and surrounding area will become eligible for special government funding aimed at improving tourism and pilgrimage infrastructure. Authorities plan to undertake large-scale beautification of the temple surroundings, develop modern facilities for devotees, improve road connectivity and create enhanced tourism amenities in the area.
The move is expected to significantly improve the overall pilgrimage experience for visitors arriving from across India and abroad.
Dagdusheth Ganpati Temple a Cultural Symbol of Maharashtra
The Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati Temple is regarded as one of Pune’s most revered religious landmarks and an integral part of Maharashtra’s cultural and spiritual heritage. The temple attracts lakhs of devotees annually, especially during the Ganesh festival.
Citizens and devotees have welcomed the government’s decision, saying it will help place the temple prominently on the global religious tourism map while also contributing to Pune’s urban and cultural development.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis Welcomes Decision
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced the decision and said the upgraded tourism status would support the comprehensive development of the temple area from both pilgrimage and tourism perspectives.
He stated that the move would encourage religious tourism, improve facilities for devotees and add to Pune’s cultural and spiritual prominence.
